Valentine’s Day Treats

February is a month that wears many hats. Two of the most well-known and nationally celebrated are Black History Month and Heart Health Month. However, there are plenty other more obscure national remembrances including national bird feeding, cherry, embroidery, grapefruit, macadamia, and the oddly specific: national pet dental health month. To most though, February’s holiday focus is Valentine’s Day.

So, to celebrate, here are a handful of super simple treats with a Valentine twist. Just because most of the recipes include red, don’t let that limit you to just Valentine’s Day. After all, National Dog Training Education Month only comes around once a year!

Strawberry Wonton Cups

Ingredients:

2 C strawberries, washed & thinly sliced

2 Tablespoons balsamic vinegar

1 Tablespoon sugar of choice

24 – 2” wonton wrappers

¼ cup crumbled goat cheese

¼ cup basil leaves, chiffonade

Directions:

    1. Preheat oven to 350. Lightly oil mini muffin tin.
    2. Place wonton wrappers into each of the muffin tins. Be sure to heave an opening in the center and a flat bottom.
    3. Bake wonton wrappers for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
    4. While the wrappers bake, place sliced strawberries in a bowl and sprinkle with sugar and drizzle with balsamic vinegar. Gently stir and set aside.

Once prepared, these cute treats can be put together quickly for your event. Simply fill the cups with strawberries and sprinkle with basil and goat cheese. Serve immediately.

Chocolate Chip Stuffed Raspberries

So simple and so delicious.

Simply take a pint of raspberries and wash gently. Allow them to dry fully before popping in the chocolate chip of your choosing.

Pro tip: make twice as much as what you think you will need. They are very snackable!

Conversation Cuties

Remember conversation hearts? Pure sugar, rock hard, and left the gut with an ache. But those phrases are so great! Here’s a fun alternative you can have a little fun with to surprise your kids and loved ones. Simply take a marker of your choosing and write on the skin of the clementine. Just be sure to avoid getting the ink onto the flesh as you peel. Each clementine has just over 1 gram of fiber to feed your friendly gut bacteria.
